If you were to receive one solid piece of advice when equipping your home with coffee equipment, it would be to buy a really good grinder before anything else!
The Encore is lauded by coffee experts as THE go-to entry level grinder for those brewing coffee at home. The Encore gives a great grind for drip/manual brew and also grinds fine enough for espresso.
Featuring 40 individual grind settings, from fine to coarse, the Encore can please any palate with its gamut of accurate and repeatable grind settings. The Encore has an accurate medium to coarse grind for the increasingly popular manual brew methods such as pour-over, Aeropress, Siphon and Chemex. The specially designed burrs give a precise grind with minimal fines for a flavorful, balanced extraction when making espresso.
And, of course, the Encore is built with the quality Baratza parts you’ve come to trust. The efficient DC motor keeps your beans cool, even during extended grind times, while a combination of electric and gear speed reducers slow the burr to 450 RPM, ensuring a smooth bean feed and reducing noise, heat and static buildup.
Beyond a great coffee-drinking experience, the Encore makes for a great coffee-making experience. A convenient, front-mounted pulse button makes it easy to grind on demand into your brew basket. Whether you are looking for an espresso grinder or a grinder to help you explore that extensive range of brew methods, the Encore is a great all around home grinder.
Burrs: Manufactured in Europe, the Encore’s 40 mm conical burrs will grind for many styles of coffee. Conical burrs grinders are exceptional at producing consistent grinds from very fine to very coarse as well as being durable and will remain sharp for many years.
Gearbox: In 2012, Baratza introduced the second generation Gearbox (GB 2.0). With GB 2.0, Baratza has significantly increased the strength and durability of the drive transmission while decreasing noise. In addition to a new drive shaft, motor mounting plate and bushings, this change includes a new drive gear made of 15% glass filled thermo plastic which is quieter than the prior metal gear, wears better and is more shock resistant. During the Encore’s rigorous testing process, stainless steel screws were thrown into the burrs, and in every case the motor/gear/burrs stopped immediately, the (automatically-resettable) thermal cutout was triggered, and the gears were fine.
Grind Adjustment: Turn the hopper and with 40 settings you can quickly adjust from fine for espresso to coarse for French Press. The grind range is from 250 to 1200 microns.
Grinds Left in Grinder: To maximize freshness, the Encore minimizes the ground coffee left in the grinder.
Brewing Methods: The Encore is a great grinder for manual brewing and espresso.
Motor: A powerful, high torque DC motor effortlessly drives the burrs. This motor turns slowly resulting in cool, quiet operation and permits long grinding duty-cycles. The circuitry is equipped with an automatically resetting, thermal cutoff switch.
Calibration: An innovative burr calibration system ensures that each grinder has the full range of grind. If necessary, the grinders can be user calibrated.
Speed Control: With unique speed control, the Encore uses a combination of gear and electronic speed reduction to control the rotation of the burr to 450 RPM. The electronic speed controller is adjustable from 405 to 495 RPM in the event that specific user conditions require modification of the speed. This slow speed reduces heat, noise, and static generation in the grinder. It also ensures that the beans feed smoothly into the burrs.
On-off Switch: The Encore has an easy on-off switch.
Cleaning: Burrs are easily removable with no tools, making cleaning very easy.
Introducing the Virtuoso+, an upgrade and replacement of the current Virtuoso. In response to customer requests, we have updated the timer switch for a digital display and kept all the other trusty parts the same. The 40 second digital timer allows you to easily set a repeatable dose. And with intuitive adjustments to the tenth of a second, the every day grind just got even better. This multi-purpose grinder is the step-up for the advanced coffee lover. The high performance burr set reduces the fines in all levels of grind which gives a clean (café quality) taste in the cup, while the digital interface allows for easy, time-based dosing. With an elegant and attractive metal casing to accentuate your coffee corner, this is a brewing tool that will fast forward your coffee journey with consistency and reliability.
Baratza Forte AP • Commercial Grade (Special order)
Regular price
$1,249.00
Description: Pour Over, Aeropress®, French Press, Drip & Espresso
The Forté-AP is a compact, commercial grade grinder, dedicated to grinding for ALL brew methods. The Forté-AP incorporates many features that fit well into commercial operations, including: all metal construction; small footprint; intuitive control panel; and solid macro/micro adjustment. The Forté-AP offers the ability to grind by time, for espresso dosing, or by weight. Coffee professionals find the Forté–AP to be a versatile grinder for many situations – as a small restaurant and office espresso/brew grinder, as a Roaster demo grinder for wholesale tasting, or being a dedicated grinder for decaf or single origin in a café.
The Forté-AP is a durable workhorse using a 54mm flat ceramic burr, which produces an accurate and precise grind, delivering exceptional cup quality for brew methods from espresso to press pot. We re-designed the guts of the Vario-W for commercial use. The Forté-AP design includes a grinding assembly with a threaded burr holder which screws firmly into an all metal grinding chamber for a more accurate grind. A larger gear to belt ratio, combined with a more efficient DC motor increases the speed of grind and duty cycle.
Features
INTUITIVE INTERFACE The Forté–AP allows you to dose by weight or time. Our signature dose-by-weight is accurate to plus or minus .2 gram. The touch activation awakens your screen with LED backlit technology. The touch screen controls all operations with three programmable dose presets; Up or Down arrows to increase or decrease dose values; and TARE, MANUAL, START or STOP.
ESPRESSO DOSING A unique feature of the Forté–AP is the ability to convert a weight preset into a timed value that is accurate within plus or minus .5 grams of the set point. This allows for weight oriented dosing for espresso.
BURRS The Forté-AP grinder comes with 54mm ceramic flat burrs for accurate and precise grinding. The Forté-AP grinds at an average of 2.0g/sec for espresso and 3.5 to 3.7g/sec for press pot. The range of grind is 230 to 1150 microns.
ADUSTMENT/GRIND RANGE An all-metal macro and micro adjustment system produces a positive feel and secure grind setting. The macro-adjust moves from fine to coarse grinding in 10 distinct and repeatable settings. A secondary micro-adjust further divides each of the 10 macro steps into 26 distinct settings. These steps, plus the new metal detents, enable fine-tuning with ease, dialing in the exact grind for the preferred brew method being used.
HOPPER The hopper holds approximately 300g of coffee. An innovative bean shutoff feature in the collar permits no-mess, no-fuss hopper removal for changing out beans. Bean “waste” (below the stopper) averages a surprisingly low 10g, once the hopper has been shut off (all weights are bean density dependent). A hopper extension is available that can add an additional 250g of capacity.
RE-CALIBRATING BURRS The Forté-AP is calibrated at the factory to ensure an accurate range of grind. If necessary, the Forté-AP burrs can be easily re-calibrated using the special calibration tool that comes with the grinder
CLEANING BURRS Burrs can easily be removed for cleaning using the cast zinc tool that is included with your Forté.
ACCESSORIES Hopper extender: An extension that can add 250g of capacity to the existing 300g bean hopper. Several extenders can be added to get to the capacity you need.
**Please note that the Forté is a special order item. We will contact you for full details of expected arrival once you complete your order.

“After brewing gallons of coffee, we had a winner (The Technivorm Moccamaster). What is a Coffee Sock?
The Coffee Sock may just be the best and easiest way to make great coffee. It is a cloth (usually fine cotton/muslin) shaped like a filter or sock in which ground coffee is loaded and then boiling water is added. There are varying designs, from the very complex to the very simple. We prefer the simple as they taste great and cost little.
What grade coffee grind should I use with my Coffee Sock?
You can use any grind (fine to course), however we recommend using an extra find grinded coffee for the best taste and a stronger brew.
How long can I reuse my Coffee Sock for?
If you take good care of your Coffee Sock it could last years! The estimated life span of a frequently used Coffee Sock is 6-12 months. If the Coffee Sock is not allowed to dry it may become mouldy and this is the end for that Coffee Sock (however this can be avoided! – Refer to ‘How do I clean my Coffee Sock?)
How do I clean my Coffee Sock?
Cleaning your Coffee Sock is easy. Firstly dispose of the used coffee and then rinse it under the tap until all used coffee is removed. Now hang the Coffee Sock somewhere to allow it to dry out. Simple.
We strongly recommended against the use of any cleaning agents/chemicals being used to clean your Coffee Sock. These will not only shorten the life of the Coffee Sock but will impact the taste of further coffee.
My Coffee Sock looks dirty and I cannot get it white again!
When you first get your Coffee Sock it’s a lovely white, but after a few uses it becomes stained with the colour of coffee. This is not a bad thing! The Coffee Sock absorbs the oils in coffee and this will add to the flavour of your coffee. Yes it may look ugly but rest assured that it will still make a great cup of coffee. In fact we believe the older a Coffee Sock gets the better the coffee it makes tastes! (this assumes it is cleaned and dried out after reach use)
How does the Coffee Sock brew my coffee?
The Coffee Sock uses the steeping method to extract the goodness from your fresh coffee beans. Steeping means to soak or saturate to extract flavour.
We would suggest socks for your feet belong on your feet. Feet socks are not normally fine enough to brew coffee and you have that fluff, lint and detergent taste too! So in short no you can't do the same thing with a pair of your socks!
